East River Medical Imaging, PC has earned a reputation for conducting state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans that are analyzed by our team of remarkable radiologists. We use cutting-edge MRI technology, and our doctors are exceptional at reading these images.

Bringing it back to basics, an MRI scan uses magnets and radio waves to create detailed internal body images. With this technology, there's no risk of extra radiation exposure like there would be from a CT scan or X-ray. MRIs are particularly useful when it comes to examining soft tissue, like internal organs. Depending on the context, a patient may be administered contrast material to enhance the visibility of certain body components in an image.

Shortly after the MRI was invented, ERMI began conducting targeted MRI scans, which focus on specific areas of the body. We installed and operated one of the first commercially available superconducting MRI scanners in the world at 519 E. 72nd Street in 1986. Targeted MRIs are used for preventative medicine, diagnoses, and to monitor any existing medical conditions. MRIs are often used to diagnose tumors, aneurysms, injuries, and to assess any damage sustained following a major health event like a stroke.

Currently, our practice uses open, closed, extremity, and wide bore MRI machines to promote patient accessibility to this hugely beneficial exam.

The Full-Body MRI

Recently, the concept of a full-body MRI (also referred to as a "whole body MRI") has been gaining speed in the radiology field. A full-body MRI is typically utilized as a preventative screening. The scan itself is conducted over the head, neck, and torso.

If a patient is experiencing a specific issue with symptoms pertaining to a local part of the body, they would be referred to ERMI for a targeted MRI. However, given that a patient has more general concerns and wants to ensure their overall health, the full-body MRI has become a more obtainable option over the past couple of years.

We could see this procedure grow to be a mainstream pre-screening tool as more healthcare providers begin offering it as an option. It has the potential to detect abnormalities early enough to effectively treat potential medical issues.

ERMI & Full-Body MRIs

Because ERMI is always looking for opportunities to expand our patient services in accordance with shifts in the radiology field, we're embracing full-body MRI. We've completed over 1,000 of these exams already, but we are now expanding access!

As it is a relatively new, elective screening exam, the full-body MRI isn't covered by insurance, and it must be financed out-of-pocket.

To expand the attainability of this exam as it takes off, we're offering an introductory price of $2,475!

We don't require a referral for this exam, but our radiologists require each patient to identify the physician who will receive the results, assess the radiologists' guidance alongside labs or other clinical information, and guide follow up if necessary. We want to remain in dialogue with the patient's regular doctor(s) in order to better understand and assess this patient's specific needs and concerns.

To clarify, a full-body MRI is just as safe as any other MRI that we offer (which is to say: very safe).  It focuses on the patient's head, neck, and torso, excluding extremities. The exam itself takes just about 45 minutes to complete using a wide bore MRI machine.

We offer the full-body MRI at both our 519 E. 72nd St (New York, NY) and 1133 Westchester Ave (White Plains, NY) locations!
